Today, PLATINUM Country-Rock standouts Southall unveil their new album, Kinfolk. Listen to Kinfolk HERE. Produced by GRAMMY® Award-nominee Wes Sharon (John Fullbright, Turnpike Troubadours), the album is sonically rooted in old school Country and revved up by Rock ‘n’ Roll energy, perfectly capturing the vision of founder, singer, guitarist, and band namesake Read Southall.
Playing out like the perfect soundtrack to a cross-country road trip, thematically, it explores topics such as family, legacy, loss, and love – all under an Oklahoma sun.
“Kinfolk… it’s about the people around you. The ones you trust and create with," Read shares. "This album was a collective effort and I truly believe that collaboration gave the record a depth and authenticity we’re really proud of.”
Among many highlights, the latest single “Okie Pokin’ Out” illustrates their uncanny and undeniable genre alchemy, blending country and rock into a bold brew of their own. Right out of the gate, it cruises along on a steady and solid drumbeat accented by bright piano and a hip-swinging riff. Leaning into a rockabilly-style swing, it culminates on a hummable hook, “Nobody’s gonna keep us down. That’s just our Okie pokin’ out.” A melodic lead fittingly caps the song off on an epic note.
Ahead of Kinfolk, Southall paved the way with releasing the incendiary and infectious “Burning Bridges.” Racking up hundreds of thousands of streams, the song followed the buzzing “Freight Train,” which Raised Rowdy raved as, “‘a solid, confident release that shows exactly where the boys are these days – and it’s a damn good spot to be.”
Currently out on a run of shows with co-headliners ZZ Top and Dwight Yoakam through Friday, May 8, Southall will spend the summer on the SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY TOUR alongside The Black Crowes and Whiskey Myers - the most expansive tour of their career.
