LOCASH FINDS ALL KINDS OF HOME

Preston Brust and Chris Lucas may have come together at work, but it was their intense love of songs, records and artists that cemented their decades-long friendship. Named Music Row’s Independent Artist of the Year in part for Country Aircheck/Mediabase’s No. 4 Overall Song of 2025 “Hometown Home,” the duo who make up LOCASH spent a lot of time thinking about what their high impact anthem celebrating the things that really matter means.

Beyond the clichés, bumper stickers and slogans, both men - now in their second decade of collaborating, whether writing hits for Keith Urban and Tim McGraw, or racking up 1 BILLION streams on their own – wanted to gild the emotions that define their multiple week No. 1. Instead of countless remixes and collabs, the duo decided to each go back to songs that shared the same heart and put their own LOCASH spin on two very different classics.

The pair reached for Joe Diffie’s timeless Country classic “Home” and Bruce Springsteen’s tender homage “My Hometown” to capture on an afternoon the pair spent at Brust's home, reflecting on how far music had taken them. As Lucas says, “When you strip everything away, whether you’re Rock or Country or Pop, whatever, the way you love where you come from is almost always for the same reasons. It’s who you are, where you formed your values, grew up, came of age and learned how to be the person you wanted to be… When we were talking about how grateful we were to have ‘Hometown Home’ hit Number One, we realized what that song really meant.”

“It put us in a pretty special club,” Brust continues. “So many artists have written or recorded songs that really create a sense of why home is so special, right? And when Chris and I were talking about some of them, we thought it would be cool to put a couple down to share with anyone who loved our song, to give them a little bit more – but also something a little bit different, too. Maybe turn people onto some songs that really stand out to us, but also have that same feeling, that same reverence for what home means.”

LOCASH put the two songs on their social platforms as a gift to the people who love their music, especially “Hometown Home,” as well as a way to have a good time making music just because. Two decades in, the duo who are brothers as much as friends want to always remember the love of how people grow up and the things that truly matter in this life.

“Sometimes it’s good to just do things because they make you happy,” says Brust. “No master plan, no big reason, just ‘Man, these songs feel good! Let’s play ’em.’”

“Pretty much everybody knows both of them,” adds Lucas. “But the thing about songs that are part of your DNA, it’s easy to not really think about them. They’re just there. But when you hear them like this, you stop and think about how good those songs sounded when you first heard them, when that moment was happening. To me, that’s what ‘Hometown Home’ was trying to capture. I’d like to think maybe we did, and maybe people will love these covers just as much.”
