Kickstarting what promises to be a bold creative chapter, PLATINUM Country-Rock standouts Southall excitedly unveil a brand new single entitled “Southwestern Son”—out now. It marks the beginning of their next era and signals the arrival of more music on the horizon in 2026. Listen to “Southwestern Son” here.
Bright piano, wailing guitar, and a simmering beat set the track in motion, illuminating it with energy. Steady tambourine holds the tempo, and frontman Read Southall delivers charismatic and captivating verses. The momentum never waivers as a swinging groove underlines his soulful and skyscraping hook, “Keep on shining ‘Southwestern Son’.” Taking yet another left turn, a gospel choir carries the bridge chased by a fret-burning solo. Cut from the same cloth as your favorite Country-Rock essentials from back in the day, it has all the makings of a future staple now.
"For me it’s a song about perspective,” says Southall frontman Read Southall. “Sometimes what we want is not what we need, and what we need is not what we want.”
Audiences can expect to hear this anthem when the group hit the road for a string of North American tour dates this winter. First up on January 17, they’ll appear at Deadwood Red Dirt Music Festival in Deadwood, SD. Heading down South, they take over Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, TX on February 6. A couple weeks later, the group will traverse the Northeast and Midwest alongside Ole 60, beginning with a show at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA on February 19 and concluding this leg at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN on February 28.

Southall capped off a busy 2025 with the release of The Six String Sorrow Sessions that features seven re-recorded tunes from their breakout independent debut Six String Sorrow, tagging in the likes of John Jeffers of Whiskey Myers, Koe Wetzel, and Hudson Westbrook for new collaborative recordings. Beyond plugs from Music Matters Magazine and more, Whiskey Riff professed, “Southall is one of the best country leaning rock and roll bands in the business these days, and this year marks 10 years of the songs that started it all.” Country Central applauded how it “takes a dusty collection of decade-old fan-favorite gems and gives them the punchy, high-fidelity sound they’ve always deserved.” Prior, the band gave the original album new life on the 10 YEARS OF SIX STRING SORROW TOUR, which sold out dates coast-to-coast across North America.
Boasting nearly 700 MILLION career streams, Southall has spent the last decade building a rabid grassroots following. Winning over crowds while headlining across the country, they’ve also opened for Whiskey Myers, Treaty Oak Revival, and ZZ Top.
