SOUTHALL RETURN TO THEIR BREAKOUT DEBUT WITH THE SIX STRING SORROW SESSIONS

Celebrating a decade of Southall, the PLATINUM Country-Rock standouts are returning to their 2015 breakout debut Six String Sorrow with a brand-new collection entitled The Six String Sorrow Sessions. Available across all streaming platforms, listen here.

Originally penned and recorded solely by founding member Read Southall, the re-imagined LP features the full Southall six-piece band on all seven staple tracks, plus collaborations with special guests Koe WetzelHudson WestbrookJohn Jeffers of Whiskey Myers, and more. Together they re-ignite, the spirit at the heart of Six String SorrowWhiskey Riff exclusively broke the news of the surprise release on Wednesday (10/8), going on to praise, “an all-time collaborative album from a plethora of Red Dirt giants.”

This body of work opens with “Gunshy – Rerecorded” featuring none other than Wetzel. The iconic electric guitar riff brims with recognizable energy, yet the Lone Star State’s favorite 21st century outlaw brings his own swagger and style to the tune. Smoky harmonies transfix on the hook, “Sorry darlin' if I've been a little gunshy.” Elsewhere, Josh Meloy infuses “Aero-Plane – Rerecorded” with a rush of emotion, boosting this ballad as a recharged duet. “Daddy’s Hand – Rerecorded” finds Jeffers in top form, absorbing the soul of the original and simultaneously ripping like only he can. Westbrook shines on “Empty Hole – Rerecorded.” The latter’s raw lyrics cut as deeply as ever during lines like, “I’m tired of feeling this empty hole inside my soul.” Sam Canty of Treaty Oak Revival delivers a powerhouse performance on “Moon and Back – Rerecorded, capping off the project in epic fashion. ABOUT SOUTHALL:
Founding member Read Southall hails from Oklahoma and is joined in the six-piece group by Reid Barber, Jeremee Knipp, Braxton Curliss, John Tyler Perry, and Ryan Wellman. Southall's musical influences range from Country to Rock to Metal and everything in between, making for a wholly original sound that Rolling Stone described as “infuse[ing] rock and metal into the band’s coffee shop vibe.” The guitar-driven band never loses focus on meaningful lyrics, penning tunes that speak to every aspect of life and help drive a Rock and Roll experience for their audience, whether they're listening at home or at a packed show. Following their raw and explosive self-titled album Southall (2023), they are underscoring their established career with latest release, The Six String Sorrow Sessions, a special re-record honoring the debut that started it all, Six String Sorrow. Southall's 2021’s For the Birds features the epic six-minute long single "Where We Belong" and “impressive standout” (Raised Rowdy) “Rose Gold” and follows their 2017 album Borrowed Time, which includes their RIAA PLATINUM-certified single "Why." Full of ‘70s Soul, Country-inspired lyricism, and Rock and Roll heart, their music draws packed crowds and evokes old-school Country and early Grunge all at once. Celebrating a decade of Southall, the band is currently out on their headlining 10 YEARS OF SIX STRING SORROW TOUR. Boasting nearly 700 MILLION career streams, Southall are currently in the studio with new music promised soon.
