MULTI-PLATINUM star Gabby Barrett is bolder than ever with “The Easy Part,” out now via Warner Music Nashville. “The Easy Part” presents a powerful sneak peek at the highly awaited next phase of Barrett’s unstoppable career. Listen to “The Easy Part.”
“I enjoyed writing on this one. It captures that emotional moment when someone thinks leaving is ‘The Easy Part,’ but what they don’t realize is that the memory of who you were to them will be the hardest to forget. It’s not about encouraging walking away, but about the weight that love can carry even after it’s gone,” shares Barrett. “In some ways, it feels like a distant cousin to ‘I Hope.’ It’s a different kind of heartbreak, one that settles in slow and quiet.”
Written by Barrett, Zach Abend, Jon Nite, and Michael Hardy (aka HARDY), “The Easy Part” marks a glorious return to the unapologetic intensity of her 8X PLATINUM breakout “I Hope” – a #1 meteoric smash that recently reigned at #4 on Billboard’s Top Hot Country Songs of the 21st Century chart. This time around, Barrett brings her breathtaking vocals to a raw but resilient breakup anthem that ultimately trades tears for triumph.
Earlier this summer, Barrett began teasing “The Easy Part” on social media with a series of videos that immediately sparked a frenzy of anticipation among fans (her caption from a clip: “When you're in a happy marriage with 3 kids but are about to drop a breakup song”). Right from its very first seconds, the fiercely aching track fully delivers on its promise as Barrett bids a fed-up farewell to a toxic partner unworthy of her love (“You're mad and you don't even know why / But I ain't beggin’ you to stay / I ain't goin’ through it again”). Doubling down on her self-determination, the song’s electrifying chorus offers a warning to the one who’s done her wrong: “Leave me a mess in the middle of the road / Go all Jack D crazy / Tell yourself leavin’ me is so hard / But I got news for you baby / That'll be the easy part.” With equal parts grace and grit, Barrett brings it home by belting out a devastating prediction at the bridge: “And the hardest part is knowin’ what we could be / Knowin’ you'll never see / One inch of this town where I ain't hangin’ 'round / Hauntin’ every single corner of your memory.”
Produced by Zach Kale, Zach Abend, and Ross Copperman (Barrett’s co-producer on her widely acclaimed 2024 sophomore album Chapter & Verse), “The Easy Part” matches Barrett’s moody storytelling with a gorgeously brooding sound that defies all genre boundaries. Propelled by a potent piano melody, it unfolds in blazing guitar riffs, shadowy beats, and soulful banjo tones, while building a spellbinding backdrop to her powerhouse voice. In a testament to the incredible impact of her vocal work, Barrett channels an undeniable anguish even in the most defiant moments, adding yet another layer of emotional depth to her intimate portrait of self-preservation.
With more music on the way, “The Easy Part” makes for a formidable follow-up to Chapter & Verse – an autobiographical tour-de-force that found Barrett claiming greater creative control than ever before when co-writing nine of the LP’s songs, in addition to co-producing the full project with Copperman. Soon after the arrival of Chapter & Verse, she once again dazzled audiences with Carols and Candlelight, her first-ever Christmas album. At just 25 years old, Barrett’s hit-stacked catalog also spotlights her PLATINUM debut Goldmine and its Deluxe edition – including 4-week Hot AC #1 crossover “I Hope (feat. Charlie Puth),” 4X PLATINUM three-week #1 “The Good Ones,” and PLATINUM “Pick Me Up.”
An unforgettable live performer, Barrett is now touring the country on her 30-date LIFE I’M LIVING TOUR 2025. With stops scheduled through October 5 in Ocean City, MD, the major headline run finds Barrett tracing the red-hot path of her remarkable ascension.
