SOUTHALL TAKE LIFE AS IT COMES WITH SWIRLING NEW SINGLE, “BY SURPRISE”

Rising Country outfit and Smoklahoma Records artists Southall preach the go-with-the-flow gospel with their new single, “By Surprise,” finding ultimate joy in the unexpected.

Mixing psychedelic Country-Rock with a dash of good-life psychology, the laid-back anthem with a spacey but down-to-earth theme was written solely by the band’s Reid Barber, embracing the wonder inside each and every moment.

Produced by Eddie Spear (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, Cody Jinks), a swirling mix of modern-Rock magnetism and soul-searching story craft meets dreamy guitars and vocals that seems to float in thin air, with a propulsive drumbeat urging all to look out for the biggest of big pictures. The happiness we seek is right in front of us, the track proclaims – if you can let go and let the world take you “By Surprise.”

Holler gave fans an early listen of the new song, premiering “By Surprise” here yesterday (7/20).

“That’s the song I’m most stoked about,” Barber shared with Holler. “It’s so big in the whole scope of what is being talked about. This life and how we get through it.”

Marking the second installment of a new chapter for the band, “By Surprise” follows the June release of Southall’s “Scared Money” – a swaggering honky-tonk rocker and rebellious anthem to life lived on your own terms.

Formerly known as Read Southall Band, the GOLD-certified group (“Why”) has two full length albums behind them and has spent the last few years building a rabid, grassroots following on the road. After touring the U.K. and Europe with Blackberry Smoke in early 2023, they’ve spent much of this year winning over crowds with Whiskey Myers and Chase Rice and are now in the thick of an epic breakout.

The six-piece group will kick off the massive SOUTHALL WORLD TOUR on September 15 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, embarking on a 43-date trek across the U.S. and Europe which culminates in London, U.K., on February 23. Find a full list of tour dates here. And meanwhile, more new music will continue to roll out, with the band’s self-titled studio album, SOUTHALL, set for release on September 22 – pre-save here.

ABOUT SOUTHALL:
Founding member Read Southall hails from Oklahoma and is joined in the six-piece band by Reid Barber, Jeremee Knipp, Braxton Curliss, John Tyler Perry and Ryan Wellman. Southall's musical influences range from Country to Rock to Metal and more in between, making for a wholly original sound reminiscent of "being in the crowd at a young Merle Haggard show," according to The Anniston Star. The guitar-driven band never loses focus on meaningful lyrics, penning tunes that speak to every aspect of life and help drive a Rock and Roll experience for their audience, whether they're listening at home or at a packed show. Southall's latest album, 2021’s FOR THE BIRDS, features the epic six-minute long single "Where We Belong" and “impressive standout” (Raised Rowdy) “Rose Gold” and follows their 2017 album BORROWED TIME, which includes their RIAA GOLD-certified single "Why." Full of ‘70s Soul, Country-inspired lyricism and Rock and Roll heart, Southall’s music draws packed crowds and evokes old-school Country and early Grunge all at once. The band has notched 168 MILLION+ streams on Spotify and 121 MILLION+ streams on Apple Music, tallying over 1.1 MILLION monthly listeners across platforms.
